Department of Chemistry
The Chemistry Department provides an exceptionally rich learning environment for the study of this foundational science. Faculty members, who are generous with their time and knowledge, teach all courses in the department and plan and facilitate all research.
The department focuses on providing students with individual attention, promoted through small lecture and lab classes taught by professors committed to one-on-one and small-group interactions.
Students are encouraged to make oral and PowerPoint presentations, give seminars to enhance their creativity, communication skills and confidence. Innovative teaching methodologies incorporated in the regular teaching program help to develop and maintain students’ interest in chemistry. Some of these are:
- Wide use of ICT by both staff and students
- Experimental demonstrations
- Use of molecular models for organic and inorganic chemistry
- Guest lectures on topics in frontier areas of chemistry
- Industry visits / field trips
- Crosswords and quizzes
- Poster presentations
